Benjamin & Lovedia Dixon, first permanent European settlers at Walvis Bay Compiled by Jim Dixon

DIXON book FRONT 1I am a great grandson William Cornelis Dixon, son of Benjamin and Lovedia Dixon, first generation Irish immigrants to Southern Africa. My main objective with this dissertation is to learn more about Benjamin and Lovedia (and to a lesser extent their children), their character, personalities and the time period they during which they lived.
Information about ordinary people born more than two centuries ago is scarce and, although I have tried to find external source references where possible, I have included some family lore and legend and some of my own conclusions. Some of the things written may not go down well with the family but I have written as objectively as possible.
I cannot guarantee that everything written is factually accurate (sources are often contradictory) and I leave it to the reader to study these sources and draw their own conclusions. Interested researchers will also be well advised to research the diaries and records of the Wesleyan and Rhenisch missionaries of the time.
