IN LOVING MEMORY TO OUR DEAREST FAMILY AND FRIENDS

Remembering Loved Ones: A Collection of Funeral Letters

This project, a collaboration between the Genealogical Society of South Africa (GSSA) and the SAGenealogy mailing list, honours the memory of those persons who touched our lives. It offers a collection of Funeral Letters, preserved as a valuable Genealogical resource.

Here's what you need to know:

  1. Public Archive: We consider funeral services public events, and the Funeral Letters shared here are viewed as public domain documents.
  2. Immediate Publication: Funeral Letters are archived promptly after receipt, ensuring timely access.
  3. Genealogical Treasure Trove: These Funeral Letters offer a wealth of genealogical details. They are fully indexed and searchable by surname for your research convenience.
  4. Filing System: Surnames with prefixes (like DU PLESSIS or VAN DER MERWE) are filed alphabetically by their main part (PLESSIS-DU and MERWE-VAN-DER).
  5. Clear Labelling: Each Funeral Letter is captioned with the names and dates mentioned within the document itself.
