A substantial number of members of the Northern Transvaal Branch lives on the East Rand. Since these members need to travel quite a distance to Pretoria to attend meetings it was decided that this group should meet to determine what the requirements of these members for doing their family research might be. The iniative for this action came from the East Rand members of Northern Transvaal Branch and a GSSA NEC member, Hendrik Louw. This meeting took place on Saturday 22 September and 28 people attended. The organisers included Ellen Harmse, Linda Lombard, Ludwig Döhne and Kobus Snyman. The hall was provided by Kobus Snyman(non-member). 14 of the attendees are already members of Northern Transvaal and two of them were accompanied by their companions. 2 attendees are members of the eGSSA and receive the Northern Transvaal Newsletter. 2 joined the Northern Transvaal Branch at the meeting of which one was accompanied by a companion. Another 2 completed the application form and undertook to settle payment soon. Of the 28 only five are not involved as yet and a few excuces were received. It was decided that the satelite group will meet every second month mainly to report back on what transpired at the Northern Transvaal Branch meetings and to provide assistance to those for whom the long drive to Pretoria is a bit of a hazzle. The rationale for these meetings is to allow members and interested parties to exchange ideas on genealogy, to address specific family research issues, to exchange information and to provide guidance to members struggling with spesific issues.
