Dr David de Klerk was awarded the Genealogist of the year for research over many years and the publication of the book "Van Vogelvleij tot verre velde.'
Sue Mackay was awarded a merit award for her work on the British Settlers. She is and eGGSA member  not living in South Africa, but has a passion for the mentioned research topic. Richard Wolfaardt's team working on the passenger list project was awarded with a merit award. This team has been working for two years in collecting and transcribing documents from the archives. The Northwest Branch cemetery team was rewarded for their collection and documentation of cemetery data over the last ten years. Their contributions enriched not only the Cemetery DVD info over the years but contributed to the cemetery photo project of GSSA as well.
Eckhard von Fintal of the Natal Midlands branch was honoured at this award ceremony by being nominated as a Fellow of the Society. This is the highest honour that the society can bestow any of its members. Eckhard has been doing research over many years and published his findings in numerous publications. His contribution and passion in preserving the social history of people in the community is but one of the aspects that needs mentioned.
The president’s award was given this year to members serving on branch committees and members working on projects. Long service awards starting at 5 years up to 25 years were honoured. Two other categories of awards, special service to a branch and special service to the NEC were presented during the award ceremony. We would like to congratulate all the people that received a very special award during the AGM in March!
